CGE Global Gallery Set to Open Next Week
Beginning on Oct. 11, CGE will launch an exhibit in the Student Union
gallery featuring photographic work taken around the world by
students, faculty, and staff. The “Global Gallery” will be open through
Nov. 5 and aims to promote cultural awareness through capturing the
global experience.
While visiting the exhibit, gallery attendees can listen to a pre-
recorded description of each work on their cell phones.

Features Gao Hong and
Issam Rafea Duo
On Oct. 7, award-winning
musicians Gao Hong and Issam
Rafea will improvise a virtual
performance of soothing, sophisticated duets on the Chinese
pipa lute and Arabic oud lute, respectively. The renowned Duo
won two Gold Medals from the Global Music Awards for their
“From Our World to Yours” album in 2020.
Join the CGE from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Student Union 272C
Ballroom for a livestream of the performance and refreshments.

International Festival Recap
On Sept. 24, the International House hosted the annual
International Festival, featuring food, dance, music and more
from the University of Tennessee’s international organizations.
Pedestrian Walkway bustled with folks eager to celebrate
cultures from across the globe.

2021 China Town Hall Aims to Discuss China-
U.S. Relations
The annual event from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 17 connects Americans
with leading China experts to discuss the impacts of China’s global
rise on China-U.S. relations and analyze its local and national effect in
the United States. The local panel is hosted by CGE, Department of
History, and the Asian Studies Program at UT, in collaboration with
TN-China Network.

bestselling author
8 p.m. -- Local Panel Discussion via Zoom, featuring panelists:

International Career Panel
CGE is partnering with the TN World Affairs Council to host a
career panel, “Women in International Business,” on Oct. 27
from 5:30 to 7 p.m. CT via Zoom. The panel aims at connecting
successful leaders in a variety of career fields with students and
young professionals.
The panel will discuss education and preparation, workplace
challenges, the benefits and downsides of various business
careers, and the individual experiences associated with
international business. UT senior and Haslam Scholar Lucy Buck
will moderate the panel, and panelists will answer audience

One Health Workshop

The One Health Workshop is jointly held with presenters from
Hebrew University, Tel Aviv University, and the University of
Tennessee, Knoxville. The workshop will include six research
presentations by faculty and a session on funding opportunities
for both Israeli and US scholars working in the domain of One

International Education Week Highlights UN
Sustainable Development Goals
UT will celebrate IEW 2021 from Nov. 15 to 19 with the theme
“Embracing UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” UT
engages the UN’s 17 SDGs, which serve as a call to action
encouraging all countries to promote prosperity while simultaneously
protecting the planet. The event features keynote speaker and alumna
Hera Jay Brown, UT’s ninth Rhodes Scholar and the first ever
Transgender Rhodes Scholar.
Keep an eye out for a list of campus-wide IEW events.
